World of Sport – The History and Future of a British Institution

British professional wrestling is finally coming back to primetime television. In the last couple of weeks, social media and news outlets have been exploding over the news that World of Sport is finally making a return after 30 years for a two hour special airing later this year. With this monumental news exciting wrestling fans around the country, it inspired me to look at the history and potential future of World of Sport wrestling.

10 Women’s Wrestling Matches You Need to See

As much as I adore wrestling, it has to be said that it does have its problems. Possibly the biggest drawback of all to this industry is its clear gender inequalities. As someone who’s focused the majority of their university studies on sexism, feminism, and representations of gender, it pains me that one of my biggest loves in life is plagued with unequal gender opportunities, and at times, overt sexism. Thankfully though, gone are the days of the Bra and Panties match, and bikini contests, as the major companies have finally realised that the fans aren’t actually watching their products for partial nudity and mild titillation, we’re watching for some good ol’ fashion wrasslin’.

Top 10 Worst Finishers of All Time

I have been a wrestling fan ever since I first saw a man wearing a pink and black singlet back in 1998 on WCW Nitro. So in my eighteen years of pure, uninterrupted obsession, I have seen a LOT of finishing moves, so picking out the worst of the worst was a difficult task. Nevertheless, I powered my way through to bring you my Top 10 Worst Finishers of All Time.

Top 15 Favourite Finishers of All Time

I have been a wrestling fan ever since I first saw a man wearing a pink and black singlet back in 1998 on WCW Nitro. So in my eighteen years of pure, uninterrupted obsession, I have seen a LOT of finishing moves, thus whittling those hundreds of maneuvers down to just fifteen of my favourites was a daunting task. Nevertheless, I powered my way through this struggle just for you, the reader (yes, I really am that good to you). So after a lot of debate and trips down Nostalgia Boulevard, I have compiled my top 15 favourite finishers of all time.

Top 15 Finishers Outside of WWE

A wrestler’s finisher/s is/are the best weapon/s in their arsenal. It says something about them, explains how they choose to fight and how they decide to end their matches. Not only that, good finishers can also define the wrestler they belong to – what would Stone Cold be without the Stunner, or Scotty 2 Hotty without The Worm? Given how important they are, nailing a good finisher is one of the most important decisions a wrestler can make; sometimes they get it right, sometimes they get it wrong. In this list, I’ll be looking at those in wrestling today outside of WWE that really got it right. Unlike my best and worst WWE finishers lists, I will only be looking at the positive side of finishers in the world outside of Vinny Mac’s house of graps, for now at least anyway.

I’m going to be ranking the Top 15 finishers in Wrestling Outside of WWE today based on how effective they are, how believable they are as a move capable of finishing a match, and how visually appealing they are to me.

Given how important they are, nailing a good finisher is one of the most important decisions a wrestler can make; but sometimes, they get it seriously wrong. In this list, I’ll be looking at the wrestlers in WWE today that really got it wrong (for the ones that got it right, check out my list of the Top 15 Best Finishers in WWE).

I’m going to be ranking the top 10 worst finishers in WWE today based on how ineffective they are, how little sense they make, and how visually unappealing they are to me.

The John Cena Heel Turn – The Time is Now

John Cena is Vince McMahon’s wet dream come to life; he is the biggest wrestler in the world, no question, and possibly the most polarising figure in wrestling history. Let’s go Cena, Cena sucks – it’s as simple as that. It’s been a constant in WWE for years, and it isn’t going away any time soon. But there’s always been a section of the Cena Sucks collective that have cried out for the face that runs the place to turn heel – “When is John Cena going to turn heel?”, “John Cena needs to turn heel!”, “Top 10 Times WWE Should Have Turned John Cena Heel,” you’ve heard it all. Personally, I don’t think Cena needs to turn heel as he has such an important role in WWE, and the fan reaction he receives is so unique that it doesn’t have to be tampered with – I even wrote at length about it in a previous article. However, there is still a part of me that’s curious to see the fifteen-time world champion switch to the dark side. So if WWE are ever going to give in to temptation and do the unthinkable, now is their perfection opportunity.

Top 15 Entrance Themes in WWE

Whether it’s the breaking of glass, a haunting gong, or the infamous words, “I’M AN ASS MAN!”, entrance music is there to let you know exactly who you’re about to see. Sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s bad, sometimes it’s GLORIOUS! (we’ll get to that later) But what’s the best current entrance music in the house of Vinny Mac? Here are my top 15 entrance themes in WWE today.
